SWIM and our Allies Call on NY State DEC NOT to Approve the City's Proposed Changes to CSO Order

Updated: Sep 29, 2020

SWIM Issued an Action Alert in late January to be sure that our members responded to DEC's call for public comment on their intention to formally approve, by way of a Consent Order amendment, the City's proposed CSO Long Term Control Plans.

Here is a link to SWIM's comment letter and those of our members.

We are happy to confirm that the NYC City Council Chair of the Committee for Environmental Protection sent a comment letter to DEC too! We've been meeting with Council Member Costa Constantinides and his team about our concerns for a couple of years now and we salute him for his efforts to ensure that the City's CSO Long Term Control Plans will provide real relief for the City’s polluted waterways and unlock the full potential of our waterways as a vital resource for all New Yorkers! Here is a link to the letter he sent to DEC.

As part of our ongoing effort to ensure that the City's CSO Long Term Control Plans will make our waterways safe to touch, we teamed up with NRDC on an action alert that has so far sent over 3000 emails to the NY DEC, NYC Mayor, and the NYC City Council Chair of the Committee for Environmental Protection calling on them to help keep raw sewage out of NYC Waterways. Here is a link to the alert on NRDC's website, its still active so please send them an email!
