City Council Letter to Mayor Calls for Fishable Swimmable waterways in NYC!

March 7, 2018

On February 27th, a letter was sent from twenty City Council members to the Mayor calling for fishable, swimmable waterways in NYC ! Here is a link to the letter.

40 % of the entire City Council signed on to the letter!! The letter also raises concerns about the City's proposed plans to chlorinate overflows before they discharge into Flushing Creek, Alley Creek, and Westchester Creek.  Here is a link to an excellent piece about the letter and some of the issues it addresses in the Waterfront Alliance's Waterwire newsletter. City Limits also wrote an  article.

SWIM Coalition members and our steering committee have been calling on NYC City Council members to let the Mayor know they expect him to ensure that the City's Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) Long Term Control Plans (LTCPs) will provide real relief for the City’s polluted waterways.  On February 27, 2018 they answered our call!
